Report: Cogent pauses coop with Russia, Rostelecom says works

WASHINGTON/MOSCOW, Mar 5 (PRIME) -- U.S. Internet provider Cogent Communications has suspended cooperation with the Russian clients, The Washington Post reported late on Friday quoting sources.

Washington-based company and one of the world’s largest providers, Cogent Communications told its clients that it halted partnership with the Russian clients, including state-controlled telecom and digital company Rostelecom, from 8 p.m. Moscow time on Friday.

A source said that the move would worsen Internet quality, but would not suffice to sever the country off the Web.

“We are monitoring the situation and the impact on network connectivity. On the whole, digital infrastructure and connection networks of the company function regularly, all categories of clients can use data transfer under the connected tariff plans,” Rostelecom said in a statement.
